Mr Iain Hamish Stewart Gillespie
GDC No. 56344
BDS, MSc, FDS RCS(Eng)
Hamish Gillespie qualified at Guy's Hospital in 1982, and worked predominantly in the hospital service as a junior oral & maxillofacial surgeon before being commissioned into the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1988. He served with the Army in the UK and Germany, in Iraq and Kosovo, and in the United States on loan to the US Army Dental Corps.
He obtained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, by examination, with the special option paper in oral surgery, in 1991. He is on the General Dental Council's Specialist Register in Oral Surgery.
In 2000 he completed the taught MSc programme at the Eastman Dental Hospital and was awarded the degree of Master of Science in Conservative Dentistry (University College, London), with Distinction. He was joint winner of the 3M Dental Prize in the same year.
Hamish leaves the Army in 2009 to join Donald and the team at Clock Tower Dental Care as a part-time general practitioner. He is also appointed as Clinical Teaching Fellow in the Department of Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics at Leeds Dental Institute, where he will help teach a new generation of undergraduate dental students.
He is a straight-talking dentist who believes that dental health is achievable and worthwhile for everyone: "What most of my patients really need is caring, preventative dentistry, done extraordinarily well. I want them to be well-informed about their diagnoses, and about the choices available to them, so that they can invest confidently in their dental health. My aim in treatment is to achieve a predictable result, with a responsible level of intervention, and with a reasonable expenditure of time, money and effort."
Hamish lives in Ripon and is married with four children. When he has any spare time, he is an amateur bricklayer and carpenter, mountaineer and cyclist.
